What 13 People Wish They Could Tell Their 16-Year-Old Selves

We asked some seasoned professionals to tell us what they wished they could tell their 16-year-old selves. Here are some of their responses.

  1. Life is sweeter when you do the stuff you love so take risks, try new things and hone your craft because it might become your money maker one day!
  2. Make your mistakes and have a good time doing it.
  3. Take every interesting opportunity that comes your way, whether recreational or business, you never know where something amazing is going to come from.
  4. Don’t worry so much about every detail of the future – things have a way of working themselves out (as long as you work hard!)
  5. Your friends are your friends for many reasons, shared tastes and passions, talents or personalities, so turn that into something powerful before the path of life takes you in different directions.
  6. Stick to your gut – if you feel like something’s really important to you now, it probably always will be.
  7. Don’t think you know everything and be patient. Work hard!
  8. Don’t sweat the small stuff and learn to laugh at yourself – you’re a lot stronger than you give yourself credit for.
  9. Spend time with the people who make you happy, they are the ones who will stay in your life.
  10. You really can try to make something out of what you enjoy doing (you don’t have to fit in predefined boxes if it doesn’t feel right to you).
  11. Take more risks, make mistakes but most importantly trust your gut!
  12. Don’t worry if you’re doing the right or wrong thing for the big unknown future, as long as you love it your passion will get you through and be way more rewarding than trying to make money right now.
  13. Relax, honestly, relax (and do what you enjoy). The perfect job isn’t always available (and you might not know what your perfect job looks like), so apply for a job you can actually see yourself doing.
