On the last Monday of May, the United States celebrates Memorial Day, with the purpose of remembering American men and women who have died in combat.
Although, the beginning of the celebration is confusing. Research suggests that the holiday dates back to the United States Civil War (1861-1865) when citizens began placing flowers on the graves of their dead in the war. By the end of the century, almost all states had declared the “Remembrance Day”, an official holiday. Congress established the National Remembrance Day holiday in 1967, by the decision of President Lyndon B. Johnson.
In 1971, the United States Congress approved the national holiday act. It is common for the president of the United States to give a speech on this date in which the work of soldiers fallen in combat is remembered. In the year 2000, a resolution called “The Day of Remembrance” was agreed, which asks all Americans to stop their activities in honor of the fallen at 3:00 pm, local time of each state, to raise a prayer for America and for the heroes of the country. Also in the United States, the entry of summer becomes official after this day of remembrance.
How People Pay Tribute on This Day?
Memorial’s Day is not just an occasion to pay tribute to those who served in the army. For American companies, it is also an opportunity to support that appreciation with a gift. Various local and national companies offered something free on Tuesday to anyone who has served in the army, a trend that has been growing since the attacks of September 11, 2001. This day is conducive to commemorate and reflect on these men and women who have sacrificed their lives while serving in combat, whether or not they agree with wars. That day flowers are placed on the tombs of the soldiers, families place handmade portraits of their sons, daughters, and forefathers who fought and gave their lives for their country. People often gift each other handmade drawings to commemorate this day.
Want to gift something special this Memorial Day? Nothing will be ideal than a handmade portrait.
How to Choose a Handmade Drawing?
On Memorial Day, giving a great gift is very important for some people. A great gift is something that is useful, it will mean something to the person you are giving it to, it looks good and shows that you have really thought about it. A Painting is an excellent gift because if you achieve a correct image, you will achieve all these points with your gift.
Gender
The first thing to think about is what kind of paint you want to give. You should think about what kind of person is giving it to you, and determine what you will appreciate. If you are good friends, you probably already know the answer to this, but if you are not sure, going home and seeing what other photos they have on their walls will help you immensely. Also, if you’re good enough friends that you can just drop by their place, go for Oil Portrait!
Image
The next thing you should do is choose a real image. You must decide if you are going to give them a classic image such as an impression of a famous painting, or an image of something they know as a landscape, or a person. Or, if you think they would appreciate something more emotional and not discernible subject, go for watercolor painting.
Size
The last practical thing to consider is how large a painting should be. If you have a large house with large walls, you can get something massive, but if you have more limited space, you will need to get something more than standard size or maybe something much smaller. You can see a size reference image on BookMyPainting to get an idea as to how a portrait of a particular size will look on your wall.
This day has become a family event, where people carry out various activities such as shopping – taking advantage of the excellent offers – making grills or barbecue, spending a day at the beach, visiting cemeteries, and memorials, gifting each other with replica, handcrafted materials, drawing and painting, flowers, etc., participating in parades, or events of national interest such as the 500 Mile Indianapolis car race, which are held on this date annually since 1911.
