Choosing a career is not always an easy decision. Some people know what they want to be from a young age while others need some time to find their feet and work out who they are and what they want. Now that the gap between men and women in the workplace is narrowing, women can consider careers that would have been out of the question not long ago.
Here are 4 potential career paths that every woman should consider.
Nursing
Yes, we know that nursing is a very stereotypically female job, but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that choosing a career in nursing can’t be empowering and fulfilling. Not only are nurses important unsung heroes of our society, but a career in nursing presents some unique opportunities for women, and there are lots of reasons why a career in nursing can be a feminist endeavor.
For one thing, going through any healthcare system is often a very different experience for men and women. A career as a nurse gives you the chance to help guide other women through what can be a scary time.
For reasons of biology, even the most empathetic and caring male nurse can’t support women in the way that another woman can, especially when it comes to pregnancy and childbirth. Whether you are a mother or you have no intention of having children, the experience of helping other women bring a child into the world is a truly magical experience.
Finally, nursing offers women much better career progression opportunities than other careers. It is one of the few fields where women can expect to advance more easily than their male counterparts.
Engineer
If you are skilled at math, a career as an engineer presents endless opportunities. Engineers come in a wide variety of different flavors – everything from software engineers to electronics engineers. If you aren’t sure what type of engineering you want to do, you can get a feel for what each field is like without having to leave your home. For example, if you want to know what electrical engineering involves, consider PCB design using a pcb design software wiki.
Physician
If you are passionate about science and medicine, why not pursue a career as a physician? It will certainly be a hard career to break into, but if you are able to qualify, being a physician will uniquely position you to make a real difference to the lives of the patients that you encounter in the course of your work.
Writer
If you have always wanted to be a writer and are confident in your abilities, there is plenty of work out there. If you want to write novels or land a job as a journalist, that’s going to be a long-term commitment. But, there are plenty of freelance opportunities out there for talented writers.
Once you’ve decided what career path you want to aim for, the rest is up to you. As long as you are passionate and determined, you can achieve whatever you put your mind to – even if you have to go back to school and get some qualifications!
